Internal Economic Situation
Strong Recovery

General situation
After the recession of 2009 strong recovery underway with a broad-based real GDP-growth 6.4% in 2010. The rebound was strongly located in manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade and other services. Agriculture remains under-performing, in 2010 output contraction of 1.7%. In 2011 ongoing recovery but slowly abating. Relatively high inflation, reaching 14.3% in May 2011 and only gradually declining. Georgia is a main transit route for oil, gas and military supplies. Moderately high corruption: 68 out of 178.  
 
External Economic Situation
High Current Account Deficits; REASONABLE LIQUIDITY
Main sources of foreign exchange
Cars (re-export), metals, chemical and agricultural products.

Main foreign markets
Turkey (16%), Ukraine, Azerbayan and Romania.

Main expenses of foreign exchange
Energy (16%), food.


Balance of payments 
Structurally very large trade deficits, to be covered by tourist revenues, transfers and capital imports (some FDI, issue of bonds). Although strongly diminished, current account deficits are still amounting appr. 10% GDP, to be financed by concessional capital imports.
